GREEN TRAVEL PLAN

AIMS

Langley Point aims to achieve BREEAM (Building Research Establishment’s Environmental Assessment Method) ‘excellent’ status. This involves ensuring the Travel Plan is developed and tailored to suit the specific needs of the users.  A plan will ensure measures specified will help to minimise the traffic impact associated with the development.

The new office space aims to create long term sustainability through its emphasis on green performance, seeking to demonstrate the compliance of the site with the BREEAM for Offices 2006 requirements for ‘Excellent’.  Langley Point aims to exceed the requirements of BREEAM in respect of the travel requirements.

The developer is designing features into the building to ensure safe and secure access for pedestrians and cyclists, and secure cycle parking, changing facilities and space to dry clothes.  The building also has 90 car parking spaces.  The site is well served by bus routes and accessible to rail stations.  Langley Point also sits within a wider area of mixed-use regeneration.

OCCUPIER ACTION

The occupier is required to affiliate to Birmingham Company TravelWise which is a travel initiative in Birmingham offering free information and support for company travel plans.

This Travel Plan does not represent a legally binding agreement to deliver the exact measures portrayed. It is likely that the Travel Plan will evolve over time to take advantage of new initiatives introduced by BirminghamCity.

The occupier will sign up to Birmingham Company TravelWise which requires companies to pledge to undertake measures to tackle staff travel issues.  Company TravelWise can be joined by contacting Mike Cooper, the Company TravelWise Co-ordinator on 0121 303 7249 / mike.cooper@birmingham.gov.uk.  Additional information is available at www.birmingham.gov.uk/travelwise

In return Company TravelWise will assist the occupier with:

  • Advice on staff travel surveys to establish the pattern of journeys to work;
  • Advice on setting up car sharing, pool car schemes or short-term car hire for business trips;
  • Discounted public transport season tickets and day tickets;
  • Information on public transport routes and timetables;
  • Discounts and other special offers available to Langley Point staff from other local businesses that support TravelWise.

The occupier will also seek to implement the travel plan through:

  • Establishing a travel plan co-ordinator with responsibility to implement the travel plan;
  • Joining Company TravelWise;
  • Promoting car sharing, public transport, walking and cycling to staff through events and provision of information;
  • Investigating options for pool cars or short-term hire for business journeys during the day to avoid the need for staff to commute by car;
  • Maintaining safe and secure access to the building and its environs for pedestrians and cyclists through regular cleansing and maintenance of lighting etc;
  • Providing appropriate advance information to visitors to encourage and enable access by public transport, walking and cycling.

If any potential occupier has further questions or concerns, please raise then initially with Drivers Jonas the Agent for the scheme. This initiative is now common to new development in the city and is not meant to be onerous.
